Kate Spade Logo

Yali, a 16-year-old wish kid from Illinois, wished to design a Kate Spade bag.  After traveling to New York to fulfill her dream, Yali’s creation turned into a national partnership. Kate Spade has honored Yali’s wish to co-design, produce and market a handbag to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s mission.

Yali’s “Carry On” purse and design make the statement that cancer survivors “carry on” courageously and elegantly with life in the face of their medical baggage. The design details illustrate Yali’s salute to cancer survivors. She chose to have the interior of the bag replicate a bandana, which many cancer patients use to disguise their hair loss during chemotherapy.  The bag was, without a doubt, created with hope, strength and joy

Yali’s handbag will be available for purchase beginning in February 2008, around President’s Day.  The bag will be available in the Chicago Kate Spade store and acknowledged on the Kate Spade online store at www.katespade.com. The retail price of the handbag will be $325, and 50 percent of the sales price, or $162.50, will be donated to the Foundation for each bag sold. The bag will have a limited production of 90, 45 of which are pre-purchased by Yali’s family.
